Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has dismissed widespread speculation over the future of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, insisting that the Portuguese trainer remains in charge of Ghana's senior national football team because no formal resignation has been submitted to the relevant authorities.
His comments come after Queiroz posted a heartfelt farewell message on social media following Ghana's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, prompting many football fans and analysts to conclude that the veteran coach had stepped down from his role.
However, speaking in an interview with Joy News, Kofi Adams explained that neither the Ministry for Sports and Recreation nor the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received an official resignation letter from the 73-year-old coach.
According to the minister, any decision regarding the coach's future must follow the appropriate administrative procedures rather than relying on statements made on social media.
"We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don't take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn't appointed on social media, so I don't think that he resigned via social media," Adams stated.
Kofi Adams disclosed that the immediate priority is to receive a comprehensive technical report from Carlos Queiroz detailing Ghana's performance at the FIFA World Cup.
The report is expected to provide an in-depth assessment of the Black Stars' campaign, including tactical observations, player performances, strengths, weaknesses and recommendations for the future development of the national team.
The minister noted that while Ghanaians watched the team's performances throughout the tournament, it is important for the technical team to present its professional evaluation before any major decisions are taken.
"We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come," Adams said.
He emphasized that the findings contained in the report will play a significant role in determining the next steps for the Black Stars and shaping future policies regarding the team's technical direction.
The Sports Minister also backed Carlos Queiroz's earlier assessment that Ghana's senior national team requires a rebuilding process after the World Cup.
According to Adams, rebuilding the Black Stars will involve careful planning, technical evaluations and consultations between the Ministry, the Ghana Football Association and other key stakeholders.
He stressed that decisions concerning the coaching position or the long-term future of the national team would be based on facts and official consultations rather than public speculation.
The minister reiterated that government remains committed to supporting the Black Stars as preparations begin for upcoming international competitions.
Ghana impressed during parts of the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup, progressing beyond the group stage to reach the Round of 32.
The Black Stars' campaign eventually came to an end after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, bringing their hopes of advancing further in the tournament to a close.
Despite the elimination, the team's performances have generated debate about the future of the squad, the need for squad renewal and whether Carlos Queiroz should continue leading the national team.
Although Queiroz's social media message sparked widespread reports of his departure, Kofi Adams insists no official decision has been made regarding the Portuguese coach's future.
Until a formal resignation is submitted or the Ghana Football Association announces otherwise, Carlos Queiroz remains the Black Stars head coach in the eyes of the authorities.
The minister concluded that the government will allow due process to take its course before making any announcements, ensuring that any future decisions regarding the national team's technical leadership are made transparently and in the best interest of Ghana football.
