NPA mourns its Deputy CEO, says the petroleum downstream has lost a gem

The Board and Management of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) have announced the death of Deputy Chief Executive, Dr Dramani Bukari.

Dr Bukari reportedly passed away in London on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been disclosed.

In a statement, the NPA described his death as a major loss to the Authority, Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry and the many people who worked with him.

“We are deeply saddened by his departure, but we take solace in the knowledge that he has returned to his Maker,” the Authority said.

The NPA extended its condolences to Dr Bukari’s family, loved ones, colleagues and all others mourning his passing.

“We pray that the Almighty Allah gives us all strength, comfort, and peace in this difficult time,” the statement added.

“May Allah grant our brother and leader Eternal Rest. Ameen.”

Dr Bukari was a professional in the energy sector with expertise spanning energy systems, petroleum pricing and petroleum taxation.

Before joining the National Petroleum Authority, he served as Director of Entrepreneurship, Partnerships and Investments at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC), where he was involved in initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, innovation and investment in the energy and climate sectors.

He held an MSc in Energy Economics, which he obtained with Distinction, and a PhD in Sustainable Energy Technologies.

His academic and professional background positioned him as a specialist in sustainable energy and petroleum-sector policy, with experience relevant to Ghana’s evolving energy landscape.

Dr Bukari also served on the Governing Board of the Ghana Standards Authority.

News of Dr Bukari’s death has prompted condolences from government officials and members of the governing National Democratic Congress administration, who expressed sadness over the loss.

His death comes at a time when Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector continues to undergo significant regulatory and policy changes, including efforts to improve fuel pricing, strengthen market regulation and enhance efficiency within the petroleum industry.

The NPA has yet to announce details of his funeral arrangements.
