Mahama holds talks with China Vice President Han Zheng in New York

President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in New York as Ghana seeks to deepen its relations and cooperation with the People’s Republic of China.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where President Mahama has been engaging world leaders and international partners on areas of mutual interest, including economic development, trade and broader international cooperation.

According to the Presidency, the engagement with Vice President Han Zheng formed part of President Mahama’s diplomatic activities during the UN General Assembly and provided an opportunity to discuss ways of advancing the longstanding relationship between Ghana and China.

The discussions come as Ghana continues to pursue stronger international partnerships to support its development priorities and expand cooperation with strategic partners.

The Presidency has said President Mahama’s engagements during the 81st UNGA have focused on strengthening bilateral relationships and securing opportunities in areas including trade, technology and economic support.

The 81st UN General Assembly was held in New York under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”

President Mahama’s meeting with Han Zheng adds to a series of bilateral engagements held by the Ghanaian leader during the UNGA. The President has also held discussions with several international leaders on expanding economic cooperation, strengthening diplomatic relations and advancing Ghana’s interests on global platforms.

Ghana and China have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations, with both countries cooperating in areas including trade, infrastructure, investment, development and other sectors of mutual interest.

The latest engagement is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship and identify further opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
