GMet warns Of Incoming Rainstorm, Flood Risk Across Parts Of Ghana
GMet Issues Weather Alert for Thunderstorms and Possible Flooding Across Ghana
The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms and potential flooding in several parts of the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 30, GMet explained that two separate rainstorms forming along the borders of Togo and Benin are expected to merge and move into Ghana. Combined with locally developed rain-bearing clouds, the system is likely to produce thunderstorms and rainfall of varying intensities from the afternoon into the night.
The Agency highlighted that the coastal, middle, transition, and parts of the northern sectors are expected to be affected. Low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable to flooding, and strong winds may accompany the storms.
Expected rainfall times and affected areas include:
- 1600 UTC to 2000 UTC: Ho, Jasikan, Kpandai, Dambai, Salaga, Tamale, Kumasi, Obuasi, Nkawkaw.
- 1900 UTC to 0100 UTC: Coastal areas including Accra, Prampram, Ashaiman, Aflao, Aburi, and surrounding communities.
- 2100 UTC to 0300 UTC: Sunyani, Winneba, Cape Coast, Tarkwa, and Axim.
GMet is urging the public, particularly residents in flood-prone areas, to take precautionary measures and stay alert as the weather system moves across the country.
