The Electricity Company of Ghana has reportedly blocked more than 15,000 electricity meters in Nsawam and Amasaman as part of a revenue assurance exercise aimed at curbing unauthorized connections and improving compliance.
The initiative, conducted over the past two weeks by ECG’s project unit, targets meters suspected of being procured or installed outside the company’s approved procedures. The move seeks to address revenue leakages linked to improperly documented or illicit connections.
Customers affected by the blockage have been instructed to report to ECG’s project office behind the VVIP bus terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle to regularize their connections. Due to the blockage, many consumers are unable to recharge their meters once existing credit is exhausted, causing disruptions in electricity supply.
To restore their meters, customers are required to pay a total of approximately GH¢2,053.60, which covers administrative, application, and quotation fees.
The exercise is part of ECG’s broader strategy to enhance revenue collection, enforce operational compliance, and prevent further irregularities. The company has indicated that monitoring and enforcement will continue in other areas to ensure adherence to approved installation procedures.
