Personnel from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station successfully contained a tanker spillage incident at Ntoaso along the Accra–Kumasi Highway on Sunday, May 31, preventing what could have become a major road safety hazard.
The incident occurred at Misa Fuel Station when a DAF XF tanker transporting shea butter oil from Tema to Techiman developed a mechanical fault. According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the tanker's discharge valve broke, resulting in the leakage and spillage of approximately 50 tonnes of oil onto the roadway.
Firefighters responded swiftly to the scene and immediately assessed the situation. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.
To prevent the spill from causing accidents or escalating into a more serious emergency, emergency personnel applied foam concentrate to contain the leaked oil and secure the affected area.
The timely intervention by the fire service helped restore safety along the busy highway, ensured the uninterrupted movement of vehicles, and prevented any secondary incidents.
The Ghana National Fire Service commended its personnel for their quick response and professionalism in bringing the situation under control without any casualties.
