GNFS rescues two crash victims, prevents fire spread in Volta Region

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Volta Region successfully responded to two separate emergency incidents on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, rescuing accident victims and preventing a domestic fire outbreak from causing extensive destruction.

The incidents, which occurred in different parts of the region, highlighted the rapid response and professionalism of firefighters in protecting lives and property within local communities.

According to a statement issued on Thursday, May 14, by the Public Relations Office of the GNFS Volta Region, firefighters from the Peki Fire Station first responded to a road traffic accident along the Peki–Asikuma Road involving a SINO tipper truck.

Upon arriving at the accident scene, emergency personnel immediately began rescue operations to assist trapped victims. The firefighters successfully rescued two male victims from the wreckage and provided emergency assistance before the victims were handed over for further medical attention.

Although the exact cause of the accident was not immediately disclosed, road crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles continue to raise safety concerns on major highways across the country.

The statement further revealed that GNFS personnel later responded to a separate domestic fire outbreak within the region. Firefighters acted swiftly to contain and extinguish the blaze before it could spread to adjoining buildings and properties.

Their timely intervention helped minimize destruction and prevented what could have escalated into a larger community fire disaster.

“Firefighters managed to confine and extinguish the blaze in time, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings,” the statement said.

The Ghana National Fire Service commended the dedication and professionalism of its personnel, emphasizing the importance of rapid emergency response in saving lives and protecting property.

The Service also urged members of the public to observe fire safety measures in homes and workplaces while encouraging motorists to exercise caution on the roads to help reduce accidents and emergencies.

Emergency response authorities have repeatedly advised residents to report fire outbreaks and accidents promptly to enable quicker intervention and minimize damage.

The latest incidents once again demonstrate the critical role of the Ghana National Fire Service in disaster prevention, rescue operations and public safety across the country.
