The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a special team of operational officers, supported by armoured vehicles, to Gushegu and Karaga following recent clashes in the area. The move comes in response to escalating tensions, with authorities seeking to prevent further violence and restore stability.
The deployment is aimed at restoring calm and strengthening security in the affected towns and surrounding communities after disturbances in recent days raised concerns among residents and local authorities. The presence of heavily equipped personnel is also intended to act as a deterrent against any further unrest.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, April 15, the deployed officers will work closely with the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols, enforce law and order, and ensure the protection of lives and property. The coordinated effort is expected to improve operational efficiency and enable faster responses to emerging threats.
The reinforcement includes both additional personnel and specialised operational resources, such as armoured vehicles and tactical support units. These resources are designed to enhance rapid response capability, improve surveillance, and increase police visibility across the affected areas.
Security authorities indicated that the enhanced deployment forms part of broader efforts to stabilise the situation and reassure residents as ongoing operations continue. The initiative also reflects a proactive strategy by the Ghana Police Service to contain potential escalation and maintain public confidence in security institutions.
The Inspector-General of Police emphasised that the presence of the special team will complement the work of local police units, strengthening efforts to maintain peace and safeguard communities. He reiterated the commitment of the police service to ensuring that law and order are upheld at all times.
Residents in Gushegu and Karaga have been urged to remain calm, avoid actions that could inflame tensions, and cooperate fully with security personnel. Authorities also encouraged community members to provide timely information to support intelligence-led operations, which are being intensified to identify and address the root causes of the disturbances.
