Kwame Danso Police Station shut down after attack on police, judicial officers

The Bono East Regional Police Command has temporarily shut down the Kwame-Danso Police Station in the Sene West District following a violent attack by a group of irate youth on police officers and judicial service personnel.

The closure comes after unrest erupted on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, during court proceedings involving a suspect who had been arraigned before a court in Kwame-Danso.

Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, confirmed the development in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable.

According to DCoP Sadique-Osei, the decision to temporarily close the police station was taken as a precautionary measure following the attack, which disrupted law enforcement activities in the community.

Although details surrounding the incident remain under investigation, he indicated that the situation has since been brought under control, with calm restored in the area through the intervention of the police.

He assured residents that the Regional Police Command is working closely with the Police Headquarters in Accra to ensure that normal policing services are restored as soon as possible.

The Regional Police Commander condemned the assault on police and judicial service personnel, stressing that such actions undermine the rule of law and threaten public safety.

He reminded residents that maintaining peace and security is a shared responsibility that requires cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.

According to him, attacks on officers performing their lawful duties only weaken efforts to combat crime and protect lives and property.

DCoP Sadique-Osei appealed to residents of Kwame-Danso and surrounding communities to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and allow investigations into the incident to proceed without interference.

He urged members of the public to channel grievances through lawful means rather than resorting to violence against law enforcement officers.

He further emphasised that modern policing depends on strong partnerships between the police and citizens, encouraging residents to support efforts aimed at maintaining law and order in the district.

The Police Command says consultations are ongoing with the Police Headquarters to facilitate the safe reopening of the Kwame-Danso Police Station.

Authorities have assured the public that measures are being put in place to guarantee the safety of police personnel, court officials and residents before normal operations resume.

The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Bono East Region and called on residents to remain law-abiding while investigations into the attack continue.
