The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confiscated more than 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis during a large-scale anti-drug operation conducted at Gbi-Wegbe, near Hohoe in the Volta Region.
According to the Commission, the intelligence-led operation took place in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, 2026, resulting in the seizure of 2,372.38 kilograms of suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of GH¢1.19 million.
NACOC said the operation was launched following intelligence reports indicating that a farmhouse and warehouse facility in Gbi-Wegbe was allegedly being used as a storage and distribution hub for illicit drugs.
Acting on the information, officers raided the premises and uncovered the large quantity of the suspected narcotic substance, which was immediately confiscated.
The Commission described the seizure as a major success in its ongoing campaign against the cultivation, trafficking, storage, and distribution of illegal drugs across Ghana.
Investigations have since been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the operation and identify all individuals connected to the suspected drug network.
While no arrests have yet been announced, NACOC stated that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend those responsible for the illicit operation.
The Commission emphasized that the interception forms part of a broader nationwide strategy aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and preventing illegal substances from reaching communities, particularly young people who are most vulnerable to drug abuse.
NACOC also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and security through intelligence gathering, enforcement activities, and collaboration with local communities and other security agencies.
The latest seizure ranks among the Commission’s most significant drug interceptions this year and underscores ongoing efforts to combat narcotics-related crimes throughout the country.
