Two pupils dead, 40 others injured in tragic school bus accident at Assin Homaho

A devastating road accident involving a school bus has claimed the lives of two pupils of Alice Elites Academy, a preparatory school located in Assin Edubiase in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The deceased, a boy and a girl, were among more than 40 schoolchildren travelling in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus when the crash occurred on the Assin Homaho road, throwing the local community into mourning.

Confirming the incident, the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, DSP Wonder Lumor, said emergency responders quickly transported all injured pupils to nearby health facilities for treatment.

According to him, 22 of the injured children were taken to St. Francis Xavier Hospital, while 18 others received medical attention at the Assin Edubiase Health Centre.

A parent of one of the affected pupils, Douglas Odoom, spoke to Adom News about the tragedy and its impact on families within the community.

In a positive development, DSP Lumor disclosed that all 40 injured pupils were successfully treated and have since been discharged to their families.

Authorities have launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident and determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

The tragic loss of the two pupils has cast a shadow over the Assin Edubiase community, with grieving families, residents, and school authorities mourning the young lives lost while hoping for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
