Chuchuliga-Fumbisi road restart fulfillment of Mahama campaign promise - Dr. Apaak

The Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, has stated that the resumption of the Chuchuliga–Fumbisi road project represents the fulfillment of a key campaign promise made by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr. Apaak, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, explained that the revival of the long-stalled infrastructure project is directly tied to commitments made during the election campaign. According to him, the road project is part of a broader plan to improve transportation and connectivity within the constituency and surrounding areas.

He recalled that construction on the road initially began in 2016 but was later halted, leaving several communities affected by poor road conditions. “Work had started in 2016 but stalled. A promise was made by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama during the campaign that if given the opportunity to govern, and if the people of Builsa South retained me as Member of Parliament, one of the things he would do was to resume work towards completing our portion of the road from Navrongo to Sandema,” Dr. Apaak stated.

Providing updates on the current status of the project, the Deputy Minister indicated that construction activities have officially resumed. He noted that he has been actively engaging with the contractor responsible for the project, as well as maintaining close communication with the Roads Minister to ensure smooth coordination and progress.

“Work has resumed. I have been in touch with the contractor. I am also in touch with the Roads Minister,” he added, expressing optimism that the project will be completed within the expected timeframe.

Meanwhile, the Fix the Roads in Buluk Movement has welcomed the resumption of the project, describing it as a positive outcome of sustained public advocacy and citizen engagement. In a statement, the group commended Dr. Apaak, the government, and all relevant stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the contractor’s return to site.

“We express our sincere appreciation to the Government, the Honourable Member of Parliament, and all relevant stakeholders whose collective efforts have led to the contractor’s return to site,” the group noted.

The Movement emphasized the broader importance of the project, highlighting its potential to significantly improve transportation, enhance access to essential services, and stimulate economic activity across communities in the Buluk area.

“This is a clear demonstration of commitment to addressing the concerns of citizens and underscores the value of constructive civic engagement,” the statement added.

Furthermore, the group expressed support for the contractor’s phased execution strategy, which will focus on key sections of the road, including Chuchuliga to Sandema, Gbedema to Fumbisi, and Fumbisi to Wiesi. According to the Movement, this approach is expected to improve efficiency, ensure better resource allocation, and accelerate the pace of work.

“We are particularly encouraged by the contractor’s innovative approach to executing the project in phases. This strategy is expected to enhance efficiency and accelerate progress,” the group stated.

Despite the optimism surrounding the project’s restart, the Movement called for strict adherence to quality standards and timelines. It urged the contractor to deliver durable infrastructure that meets the needs of residents while avoiding unnecessary delays.

“We urge the contractor to ensure that the highest standards of quality are maintained, while adhering strictly to the stipulated timelines,” the statement emphasized.

In addition, the group encouraged Dr. Apaak to extend his focus to other critical feeder roads within the district. Improving these roads, they noted, would further enhance mobility, support local businesses, and boost economic development across the wider Buluk area.

The resumption of the Chuchuliga–Fumbisi road project is seen as a significant step toward addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges in the region, while reinforcing government’s commitment to delivering on campaign promises and improving the lives of citizens.
