Ghana and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation following high-level meetings between officials of both countries in Ankara.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, disclosed this in a statement shared on Facebook after leading a Ghanaian delegation on an official working visit to Turkey.
According to Mr. Genfi, the delegation was received at the Presidential Palace by Oktay Saral, Chief Advisor to the President of Turkey, in what he described as a cordial and productive engagement reflecting the strong diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
He noted that Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, Nasiru-Deen, participated in the meetings and was commended for his efforts in strengthening diplomatic and bilateral ties between Ghana and Turkey.
As part of the visit, the Deputy Defence Minister also held bilateral discussions with Turkey’s Minister of National Defence, Yasar Guler, where both countries explored opportunities to deepen military and defence cooperation.
Mr. Genfi stated that the discussions highlighted Turkey’s growing commitment to strengthening partnerships with African countries, particularly Ghana, across defence and security sectors.
The two sides also agreed on the importance of accelerating work on outstanding Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) relating to defence cooperation to ensure that agreed areas of collaboration are implemented effectively and translated into practical outcomes.
The Deputy Minister further expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the Turkish government for the hospitality extended to previous Ghanaian delegations, including officials from the Ghana National College of Defence Studies and Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak.
Also present during the engagements was Joseph Vander-Pallen, Director of Plans, Research and Development of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The visit forms part of broader diplomatic and strategic efforts aimed at deepening security, defence, and bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Turkey amid evolving global and regional security challenges.
