24-Hour Market Project in Nkwanta South Takes Shape as Construction Begins

Construction has officially commenced on the 24-Hour Market Economy Project in the Nkwanta South Municipality, marking a significant milestone in efforts to promote local economic growth, create jobs, and support the government's vision of building a vibrant 24-hour economy.

During a site inspection on Monday afternoon, officials assessed the progress of work and held discussions with the contractor overseeing the project.

According to the contractor, the project is being constructed entirely from the ground up, with preliminary works already underway. Despite starting from scratch, he expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the required engineering and construction standards.

He assured that adequate planning, resources, and technical measures have been put in place to guarantee the successful execution of the project while maintaining quality throughout the construction process.

The 24-Hour Market Economy Project is expected to become a major commercial hub within the municipality upon completion.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to stimulate local economic activity by creating a modern marketplace that will enable businesses to operate beyond traditional working hours.

The project is anticipated to:

  • Create direct and indirect employment opportunities.
  • Increase commercial activities within the municipality.
  • Provide improved trading facilities for market women and men.
  • Support farmers, artisans, transport operators and small businesses.
  • Enhance local revenue generation.
  • Improve livelihoods through expanded economic opportunities.

Officials believe the facility will play a crucial role in strengthening commerce and positioning Nkwanta South as an emerging centre for business and investment.

During the inspection, the contractor was encouraged to maintain the highest standards of workmanship, efficiency, and professionalism throughout the construction period.

Emphasis was also placed on the importance of adhering strictly to the project's implementation schedule to ensure that residents begin benefiting from the facility as planned.

The inspection formed part of ongoing efforts to monitor the project's implementation and ensure that construction progresses according to specification.

The commencement of construction represents an important step toward advancing sustainable economic development within the municipality.

Once completed, the market is expected to improve access to commercial infrastructure while supporting Ghana's broader 24-hour economy agenda by providing an environment where businesses can operate more efficiently and competitively.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to closely monitoring the project's progress to ensure it delivers lasting economic benefits, creates employment opportunities, and contributes to the long-term development of Nkwanta South.
