John Dramani Mahama has begun a two-day working tour of the Savannah Region, starting from Sawla, as part of efforts to assess ongoing development projects and engage residents on government policies and initiatives.
The visit forms part of the government’s Resetting Ghana agenda, which focuses on infrastructure development, education, economic transformation, and community engagement across the country.
During the tour, President Mahama is expected to launch the National BSTEM initiative for basic schools, a programme aimed at strengthening science, technology, engineering and mathematics education at the foundational level.
The President will also inspect major road infrastructure projects being executed under the government’s Big Push Programme, including the Sawla–Wa Highway and the Bole–Tinga road. The projects are expected to improve transportation, boost trade activities, and enhance connectivity within northern Ghana.
In addition, President Mahama is scheduled to cut the sod for the construction of the Bole 24-hour Economy Model Market, an initiative designed to support local commerce and expand economic activity in the area. He will also inspect development projects at the Bole College of Education.
As part of his itinerary, the President will inaugurate the Mahama ICT Centre in Damongo and commission several educational infrastructure projects across the region aimed at improving access to quality learning facilities.
The tour will also include courtesy visits to traditional authorities, among them the Yagbonwura, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between government and traditional leadership.
On Saturday, President Mahama, accompanied by key sector ministers, will hold a community engagement session at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School. The event will provide residents with the opportunity to interact directly with government officials, discuss ongoing development initiatives, and raise concerns affecting communities within the region.
The President’s tour is expected to conclude with an inspection of the proposed Savannah Regional Hospital project, which is anticipated to improve healthcare delivery and access to medical services in the region.
