Ayariga inspects Kejetia Market Phase II, pledges push to complete project

Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has inspected the second phase of the Kejetia Market project in Kumasi as part of efforts to assess the progress of major development projects under his ministry.

Mr Ayariga undertook his first working visit to Kumasi on Monday, August 31, 2026, during which he visited the Kejetia Market Phase II project site and engaged key stakeholders on the status of the development.

The inspection formed part of efforts by the Ministry to identify challenges affecting the completion of the project and explore practical measures to accelerate work.

During the visit, Mr Ayariga said he assessed the progress of construction and held discussions with relevant stakeholders regarding the challenges confronting the project.

“During the visit, I inspected the project site and engaged with relevant stakeholders on the progress of the project, the challenges affecting its completion, and the measures required to move the project forward,” he said.

The Minister said the engagements were intended to provide a clearer understanding of the issues affecting the project and help determine the interventions required to ensure that the development progresses as expected.

Mr Ayariga described the Kejetia Market Phase II project as an important development for the Kumasi Metropolis, given the market’s significance to commercial activity in the Ashanti Region.

He pledged to work closely with the relevant authorities and stakeholders to address outstanding challenges and facilitate the successful completion of the project.

The Minister’s visit comes as part of broader efforts to monitor development projects and strengthen coordination between central government, local authorities and other stakeholders responsible for projects within the ministry’s mandate.

The Kejetia Market complex remains one of Kumasi’s major commercial infrastructure projects and plays a significant role in supporting traders and economic activity in the metropolis.

Mr Ayariga said the government would continue engaging stakeholders to resolve the difficulties associated with the Phase II project and ensure that the development achieves its intended purpose.

The inspection is expected to inform further discussions on the way forward for the project, including measures required to address delays and facilitate its completion.
