President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Antigua ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), marking his first participation in the high-level gathering since his re-election in December 2024.
The summit brings together leaders and senior representatives of Commonwealth member states to discuss shared challenges, strengthen cooperation and explore opportunities for collective development.
Convened by King Charles III, CHOGM 2026 is expected to focus on strengthening partnerships, mobilising investment and promoting shared prosperity across the Commonwealth.
President Mahama’s participation is expected to provide Ghana with an opportunity to engage other member states on issues of mutual interest, particularly economic cooperation, investment mobilisation and sustainable development.
The gathering will also allow leaders to deliberate on strategies for addressing common challenges and identifying areas where closer collaboration can deliver practical benefits for member countries.
A key focus of the summit is expected to be deepening partnerships and attracting investment to support economic growth, improve livelihoods and expand opportunities across Commonwealth nations.
For Ghana, the meeting presents a diplomatic opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, explore new areas of cooperation and advance the country’s development priorities within the Commonwealth.
President Mahama’s attendance comes as Ghana seeks to strengthen its international partnerships and attract investment to support national development.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent countries that provides a platform for cooperation on issues including trade, governance, education, climate change and economic development.
The 2026 meeting is expected to bring together heads of government and other senior representatives to discuss how member states can work more closely to advance shared priorities and promote prosperity across the organisation.
