UK-Ghana Growth Partnership deal aims to deliver tangible benefits for Ghanaians and businesses operating

President John Dramani Mahama has detailed the expected benefits of the newly signed UK-Ghana Growth Partnership Agreement, describing it as a transformative initiative designed to boost investment, create jobs, strengthen infrastructure, and expand opportunities for young people.

The agreement, signed on June 1 during the Ghana–UK Investment Summit in London, serves as a strategic roadmap for cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom from 2026 to 2028.

According to President Mahama, the partnership is expected to unlock investment deals worth up to £215 million, with a strong focus on private-sector development, infrastructure expansion, environmental sustainability, and skills training for Ghana’s youth.

One of the flagship projects under the agreement is a £101 million UK-backed investment that will establish the Gulf of Guinea’s first commercial-scale ship repair and dry-docking facility. The Takoradi Floating Dock Project is projected to create up to 430 direct jobs, with at least 30 percent of positions reserved for women.

President Mahama said the facility will strengthen Ghana’s maritime industry and position the country as a leading maritime hub in the West African region.

The partnership also includes significant investments in climate and environmental initiatives. An £85 million reforestation fund, alongside a £9 million project focused on forest restoration in the Oti Region, is expected to support environmental conservation efforts while creating employment opportunities in local communities.

“These transformative projects will generate local jobs and safeguard our environment,” the President stated.

In the technology sector, a £6 million partnership has been earmarked to support the implementation of Ghana’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy and promote scientific and technological collaboration among universities and research institutions.

The health sector is also set to benefit through a £4 million initiative aimed at specialist clinical engineering training to strengthen healthcare systems and improve technical expertise.

Additionally, new Transnational Education guidelines will be introduced to expand access to world-class educational opportunities for Ghanaian students through enhanced collaboration between Ghanaian and UK institutions.

President Mahama noted that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to economic growth, innovation, sustainability, and human capital development, with the ultimate goal of delivering tangible benefits to businesses and citizens in both countries.
