The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released funds to Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) across the country for the procurement of perishable food items to cater for second and third-year students.
The funding is expected to support the uninterrupted provision of meals for students as schools continue academic activities under the Free SHS programme.
According to a letter dated July 15, 2026, and addressed to all Regional Directors of Education, the GES confirmed that payments covering the period March 1 to September 4, 2026, have been transferred directly into the accounts of the various second-cycle institutions.
The directive was signed by the Deputy Director-General (Quality and Assurance), Dr Munawaru Issahaque, on behalf of the Director-General.
The Ghana Education Service instructed all Regional Directors of Education to immediately inform heads of SHSs and SHTSs that the funds have been credited to their respective school accounts.
According to the directive, the money is to be used exclusively for the procurement of perishable food items required for the feeding of SHS 2 and SHS 3 students.
The release of the funds is expected to ease procurement challenges faced by schools and ensure the timely supply of fresh food items necessary for student feeding.
To ensure accountability, the GES has directed heads of all beneficiary schools to submit official receipts for the funds received.
The receipts are to be forwarded to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service through the respective Regional Accountants.
The Service said the requirement forms part of measures to strengthen financial accountability and ensure that the funds are utilised for their intended purpose.
The Ghana Education Service expressed confidence that Regional Directors and heads of second-cycle institutions would work together to ensure the effective implementation of the directive.
The Service urged all stakeholders to comply fully with the guidelines governing the utilisation and accounting of the funds to facilitate the smooth procurement of perishable food items for students.
The latest disbursement forms part of ongoing efforts by the GES to support school feeding and improve the welfare of students in Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools nationwide.
