Police forward alleged rape case against Obuasi SHTS headmaster to AG

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ashanti South Regional Police Command in Bekwai has forwarded the case docket on an alleged rape involving suspended Obuasi Senior High Technical School headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai, popularly known as Paapaa, to the Attorney-General’s Office for study and advice.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026, the police said the case followed a complaint lodged by a 20-year-old Form Two student of the school, accompanied by her father, at the Obuasi DOVVSU office on August 4, 2026.

According to the police, the student alleged that on July 25, 2026, Mr Abdulai forcibly had sexual intercourse with her at his official residence on the school’s campus.

The police statement said the student had gone to an area near the headmaster’s official residence where students dry their clothes to retrieve her dresses when the alleged incident occurred.

She reportedly told investigators that Mr Abdulai lured her into the residence on the pretext of asking her to run an errand for him.

According to her account, the headmaster allegedly began caressing and fondling her against her will while she was seated on a sofa.

The student further alleged that when she resisted his advances, he dragged her into his bedroom and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

She also claimed that the headmaster subsequently gave her GH¢100 and asked her to keep the incident secret.

The allegations are the subject of an ongoing police investigation and have not been established by a court.

The police said investigations began immediately after the complaint was lodged.

They added that several investigative procedures had since been completed, including a medical examination, reconstruction of the scene, photography and the collection of witness statements.

In its statement, the police confirmed that the case docket had been forwarded to the Attorney-General’s Office for further review and advice.

“The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ashanti South Region, Bekwai, has forwarded the case docket on the investigation into the alleged rape case by the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School, Mr Zakaria Abdulai, alias Paapaa, to the Attorney-General’s office for study and advice,” the statement said.

The referral marks the next stage in the handling of the case, with the Attorney-General’s Office expected to study the evidence and advise on the appropriate legal action.

The police reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that the matter is handled in accordance with the law.

The case follows allegations of sexual abuse involving Mr Abdulai that have attracted public attention and prompted scrutiny of the handling of complaints concerning the school’s leadership.

The police have not announced a court determination of the allegations. Mr Abdulai’s guilt or innocence remains a matter for the legal process.
