The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has announced a new partnership with Multimedia Group Limited aimed at strengthening student entrepreneurship, innovation, and business leadership development.
The collaboration was unveiled during a meeting between management of UPSA and Multimedia Group ahead of the university’s upcoming Ghana Business Leaders Conclave, a flagship event expected to bring together business executives, policymakers, and young entrepreneurs.
The initiative is designed to provide a platform for investment opportunities, mentorship, and strategic dialogue on business leadership, sustainability, and enterprise development in Ghana.
Speaking during the engagement, Professor Mawutor said the conclave would address critical issues affecting business growth in Ghana, including succession planning, dispute resolution, and the integration of traditional leadership structures into modern business systems.
He noted that the Ghana Business Conclave Leadership Programme is intended to become an annual event, describing it as a high-level platform for shaping future business leaders.
“The Ghana Business Conclave Leadership Programme, which we want to make annual, will be a top-notch programme for business leaders in the country,” he said.
Professor Mawutor also emphasized the role of academic research in supporting business development, adding that UPSA is actively contributing to the body of knowledge on entrepreneurship and corporate practices in Ghana.
“As a university and within academia, we are contributing by developing literature and research around some of these business practices,” he explained.
A key focus of the initiative is succession planning, which he identified as a major challenge for many Ghanaian businesses. He warned that several enterprises collapse after the exit or death of their founders due to weak transition structures.
“There should be a point of transition beyond the founders of these businesses. Businesses should not collapse when their founders are gone. That is the main idea behind this conclave,” he added.
Professor Mawutor further highlighted UPSA’s commitment to practical entrepreneurship training, citing a success story involving Level 300 students who founded a business during their second year and later secured a contract worth over GH¢200,000 to supply jerseys for the university’s mini-gathering games.
“It tells you we want them to create jobs,” he said.
According to him, the partnership with Multimedia Group will help amplify such success stories and attract broader support for student-led enterprises.
The Ghana Business Leaders Conclave is scheduled for Friday, May 15 at 4:00 p.m. and forms part of activities marking UPSA’s 60th anniversary celebrations, which run from August 2025 through 2026. The event is expected to attract prominent figures, including the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Chief Operating Officer of Multimedia Group Limited, Ken Ansah, praised UPSA’s transformation and pledged the company’s support for the initiative.
“When you see institutions that are serious about transformation, you have no option but to support them,” he stated.
