Nine individuals standing trial in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been granted bail by the Adenta Circuit Court.
The accused persons were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. The court further directed that the sureties are not required to justify the bail amount but must complete and sign the necessary bail justification forms.
The suspects, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, son of the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, appeared before the court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The other accused persons are Tamaklo Safo Jehosaphat, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Badu Enock, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.
All nine defendants pleaded not guilty to five charges brought against them by the prosecution. The charges include possession of offensive weapons, use of offensive weapons, unlawful discharge of firearms in public, violation of laws prohibiting vigilante groups, and causing unlawful damage to property.
The case arises from an alleged shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, June 21, 2026, involving former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo during a ceremony linked to her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
Prosecutors told the court that investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine the involvement of the accused persons.
The court is expected to continue hearing the matter in the coming weeks as the prosecution presents evidence and witnesses in support of its case.
The incident has attracted significant public attention due to its connection to the ongoing succession dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of Apostle Kwadwo Safo in September 2025.
