Accra Digital Centre has facilitated nearly 600 new jobs in data analytics, telecoms – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the Accra Digital Centre has facilitated the creation of nearly 600 jobs in data analytics, telecommunications and other technology-related fields, describing the milestone as a major step towards building a digital economy that delivers sustainable employment for Ghana's youth.

Speaking at an event in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, July 21, the President highlighted the government's ongoing investments in digital innovation, skills development and infrastructure as key pillars of Ghana's economic transformation agenda.

President Mahama said the Accra Digital Centre continues to serve as a catalyst for innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven employment.

According to him, the facility has already contributed significantly to job creation in Ghana's growing digital economy.

"The Accra Digital Centre has also facilitated almost 600 new jobs in Data Analytics, telecommunications and related services," the President stated.

He indicated that the achievement reflects government's broader commitment to developing a knowledge-based economy capable of generating high-value employment opportunities for young people.

The President also commended the Greater Accra Region for leading participation in the government's One Million Coders Programme, a flagship initiative designed to equip young Ghanaians with digital and coding skills.

According to President Mahama, Greater Accra recorded the highest number of applications received under the programme.

He disclosed that more than 91,000 applications were submitted nationwide within the first 48 hours of the programme's launch, with Greater Accra accounting for the largest share.

"Greater Accra is also driving Ghana's Digital Transformation. The greatest number of the One Million Coders has been here in the Greater Accra Region out of 91,000 applications that were received nationwide within 48 hours," he said.

The President described the overwhelming response as evidence of the increasing interest among Ghanaian youth in digital technology and emerging career opportunities within the technology sector.

Beyond digital transformation, President Mahama announced plans to redevelop the International Trade Fair Centre into a state-of-the-art convention and conference complex.

He explained that the project forms part of government's broader strategy to modernise national infrastructure and position Ghana as a leading destination for international conferences, exhibitions, business meetings and trade events.

"I am also happy to announce the redevelopment of the International Trade Centre. A new convention and conference centre is going to be built on the Trade Fair Centre," the President revealed.

The proposed redevelopment is expected to enhance Ghana's meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry while attracting greater international investment and tourism.

President Mahama reiterated that investments in technology, digital skills and modern infrastructure remain central to his administration's development agenda.

He noted that initiatives such as the Accra Digital Centre and the One Million Coders Programme are intended to prepare young Ghanaians for the demands of the global digital economy while creating sustainable employment opportunities.

The planned redevelopment of the International Trade Fair Centre, he added, complements these efforts by strengthening Ghana's capacity to host major international events and promote trade, innovation and economic growth.

Together, the initiatives underscore the government's vision of transforming Ghana into a competitive digital and business hub capable of attracting investment, creating jobs and driving long-term economic development.
