Ghana records over 1,000 E-Visa applications from 78 countries

Government has announced that Ghana's newly launched Electronic Visa (E-Visa) platform has recorded nearly 1,500 visa applications from 78 countries within its first month of operation, highlighting strong international interest in the country's digital immigration services.

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, disclosed the figures during a working visit by Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to the Ministry of the Interior on Monday, July 13, 2026.

According to the Minister, the early response represents a significant milestone in government's drive to modernise immigration services, improve efficiency and make it easier for foreign nationals to travel to Ghana.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak said the E-Visa system, launched by President John Dramani Mahama on May 25, 2026, has already attracted applications from travellers across 78 countries.

He explained that the digital platform enables prospective visitors to apply for visas online without visiting Ghanaian embassies or consulates.

"...with the E-Visa that was graciously launched by His Excellency the President on the 25th of May, in just one month we were able to get almost close to 1,500 applicants applying to come to our country from 78 countries across the globe just by going online and getting their visa," he said.

The Minister noted that the E-Visa platform has significantly simplified the visa application process by allowing applicants to complete every stage of the process electronically.

Travellers can submit applications, upload supporting documents, make payments where applicable and receive their approved visas online, eliminating the need for in-person visits to Ghana's diplomatic missions.

Government believes the initiative will enhance Ghana's attractiveness as a destination for tourism, business and investment while improving the overall customer experience for international travellers.

Beyond the E-Visa system, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak disclosed that several other services under the Ministry of the Interior have also been digitised.

He said applications relating to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), including licensing and cannabis-related regulatory processes, are now available online as part of the Ministry's broader digital transformation agenda.

The move, he explained, is intended to improve efficiency, reduce bureaucracy and make public services more accessible.

At the launch of the E-Visa platform, President Mahama announced a major policy aimed at promoting regional integration and intra-African trade.

Under the new arrangement, African passport holders travelling to Ghana for business purposes are required to apply through the online platform but will not pay visa application fees.

The policy forms part of government's efforts to facilitate business travel, strengthen economic cooperation across the continent and position Ghana as a preferred destination for investment and commerce.

Officials say the strong uptake of the E-Visa platform during its first month demonstrates growing confidence in Ghana's digital public services and supports the country's broader agenda of modernising immigration and public administration.
