President John Dramani Mahama has commenced his one-day official visit to Paris with a high-level meeting with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, marking the beginning of a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening Ghana–France relations.
Upon arrival, President Mahama was accorded a ceremonial military welcome, underscoring the importance of the visit and the longstanding ties between Ghana and France. The bilateral meeting that followed focused on deepening cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, regional security, and the ongoing fight against terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel region.
Discussions also covered France’s continued support for Ghana’s development priorities, particularly in the areas of maternal health and agriculture. Both sides explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in these sectors to improve healthcare delivery and boost agricultural productivity.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted what officials described as significant improvements in Ghana’s economic performance under President Mahama, with emphasis on policies aimed at stabilizing the economy, promoting growth, and attracting foreign investment.
Later in the day, President Mahama and his delegation are scheduled to hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. The high-level meeting is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues for economic cooperation, investment partnerships, and security collaboration.
The Ghanaian delegation accompanying President Mahama includes the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP); National Security Advisor, Prosper Bani; Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Mogtari; and Ghana’s Ambassador to France, Mavis Frimpong. Their participation underscores the strategic importance of the visit and the broad scope of discussions expected between both nations.
