Volta Regional Communication Team Begins Monitoring of Government Projects in North Tongu

The Volta Regional Communication Outfit has commenced a monitoring tour of ongoing and completed government projects across the Volta Region, beginning with the North Tongu District.

The exercise is being led by Regional Communication Officer Kafui Agbleze and his deputy, Del Bright Kugbeadzor, with the team assessing projects in education, healthcare and road infrastructure.

According to the communication outfit, the exercise is intended to document the progress of government projects, assess their impact on local communities and provide the public with accurate information on development initiatives across the region.

North Tongu currently has more than 15 ongoing and completed projects across key sectors.

As part of the first phase of the monitoring exercise, the regional team, accompanied by members of the North Tongu Constituency Communication Team, the Constituency Secretary and Branch Communication Officers, visited several schools to inspect ongoing and completed infrastructure projects.

At Aveyime Battor Senior High School (ABA SEC.), the team inspected a modern dining hall under construction.

The facility includes a spacious dining area, washrooms, kitchen space, dry and cold stores, as well as a rest and changing room for kitchen staff.

The project also includes a designated area for the temporary storage of prepared meals before they are served to students.

The team further inspected a one-storey boys' dormitory block under construction at the school. The facility comprises 12 resting compartments, washrooms and an ironing bay and is expected to improve accommodation and welfare facilities for male students.

A two-storey girls' dormitory block at Aveyime SHS was also inspected.

At Battor Senior High School, the team took note of a completed and commissioned STEM classroom project, which is expected to provide improved facilities for science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.

Other education projects identified during the monitoring exercise include:

  • Construction of a dining hall at DORSEC.
  • Construction of a two-storey girls' dormitory at Aveyime SHS.
  • Construction of a two-storey girls' and boys' dormitory block with a dining hall at Volo E-Block Senior High School.
  • Construction of a two-unit KG block with ancillary facilities at Tagadzi.
  • A completed and commissioned KG facility at Aveyime Methodist Basic School.
  • A completed and commissioned STEM classroom project at Battor Senior High School.
  • Ongoing infrastructure works at St. Kizito Senior High School, Battor Senior High School and other schools within the district.

The projects are expected to help address accommodation and infrastructure challenges while creating more conducive environments for teaching and learning.

The monitoring team also visited several healthcare projects intended to improve access to essential services in communities across the district.

Among the projects inspected were the Volo Child and Maternity Centre, Fodzoku Child and Maternity Centre, and a CHPS Compound and Nurses' Quarters at Afaode.

The team also took note of the completed Juapong Child and Maternity Centre.

The projects are expected to improve access to maternal and child healthcare, particularly for residents in communities where access to such services has previously required travelling considerable distances.

Road infrastructure also formed a major part of the monitoring exercise, with the team assessing several projects at different stages of implementation.

The 33-kilometre Sege–Aveyime–Battor–Mepe road project is currently under construction.

When completed, the project is expected to improve connectivity between communities, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support economic activities within North Tongu and neighbouring areas.

Construction is also ongoing on the Aveyime–Asutuare–Volivo–Dofor road.

The project is expected to improve accessibility and connectivity for communities along the corridor and enhance the movement of residents and commercial activities.

The team also inspected ongoing works on the Atimpoku–Juapong–Asikuma drainage project.

The drainage infrastructure is expected to improve water management and help address flooding and drainage challenges affecting communities along the corridor.

The Volta Regional Communication Outfit said the monitoring exercise would continue across other districts in the region.

The team said the objective is to document ongoing government projects, track their progress and provide citizens with information on their implementation and expected impact.

The outfit commended the government for infrastructure projects being undertaken in North Tongu and other parts of the Volta Region.

It also acknowledged the roles of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, and Victoria Doe, District Chief Executive for North Tongu, in efforts to facilitate development projects in the district.

According to the communication outfit, investments in education, healthcare and road infrastructure represent important interventions aimed at improving access to essential services, expanding educational opportunities, strengthening healthcare delivery and enhancing connectivity.

The monitoring exercise is expected to provide further updates on the progress of projects as the Volta Regional Communication Outfit extends its assessment to other parts of the region.
