Why isn’t Zanetor a minister? – Justice Atuguba asks

Retired Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba has questioned why Klottey Korle MP Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has not been appointed to a ministerial position, describing her as a principled and dedicated leader whose qualities make her suitable for higher national office.

Speaking at the D.F. Annan Memorial Lecture in Parliament, Justice Atuguba praised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for what he described as her integrity, commitment to public service and people-centred leadership.

According to him, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings exemplifies the type of political leadership Ghana should aspire to cultivate.

Justice Atuguba said he had closely followed the activities of the Klottey Korle legislator over the years despite never having met or spoken with her personally.

He said her conduct and approach to public service had convinced him that she possesses qualities worthy of emulation.

Somebody like Zanetor Rawlings, she's not a politician; she's a woman of the people. I've been following her activities. I don't know, I've never spoken to her, never met her, but I'm convinced that that's the kind of politician people should aspire to be," he stated.

The retired Supreme Court Justice expressed surprise that President John Dramani Mahama had not included Dr Agyeman-Rawlings in his ministerial appointments.

While noting that he generally stays away from partisan politics, Justice Atuguba said he found it difficult to understand why the MP had not been entrusted with a ministerial portfolio.

"Until now, and that's why I don't get involved in politics, I don't know why she's not yet a minister. I hope by saying that, I've not destroyed her chances," he remarked.
