The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars ahead of their international friendly against Austria on Friday, March 27, 2026. He encouraged citizens to don their team jerseys in a show of national pride and support for the squad.

"Tomorrow our Black Stars face Austria! Get your jerseys ready. Let's make tomorrow a Wear Your Ghana Jersey day. Let's show our boys we're behind them!" he posted on his official Facebook page, urging fans to actively participate in boosting team morale.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, expressed strong confidence in his team’s preparation for the high-profile friendly. Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Vienna, Addo detailed the extensive tactical work undertaken by his technical staff in preparation for the European opponents.

“Now the full focus is on Austria. We saw what they do, we have analysed them well and are very hopeful that the players will do it at the end,” Addo said. He emphasized the importance of tactical discipline, adaptability, and careful planning in countering Austria’s high-intensity, aggressive style of play.

The match, scheduled to take place at the iconic Ernst Happel Stadium, is seen as a critical step in Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It provides an opportunity for the Black Stars to evaluate player combinations, test tactical systems, and measure themselves against top-tier European competition.

Addo revealed that the coaching staff has concentrated on strengthening defensive organization, improving transitional play, and assessing squad depth. The friendly also serves as a platform to identify players capable of performing under high-pressure situations, an essential component in building a competitive World Cup squad.

“I think in modern day football, to be honest, everyone can beat everyone. We want to win every match we play, and this is for sure,” Addo added, underlining the team’s commitment to excellence and competitive spirit.

As excitement builds among fans in Ghana and the diaspora, Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s call for a nationwide display of support aims to energize the players, showing that the country stands united behind its national team as they prepare for this important test against Austria.
