The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET-GH), Engr. Davor Wonder Salami, has called for increased
investment in engineering education and innovation to secure Ghana’s sustainable future.
In a statement marking World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, observed globally on March 4 and endorsed by UNESCO, the Institution stressed that engineering remains central to tackling Ghana’s most pressing development challenges.
According to IET-GH, the country’s progress in areas such as infrastructure delivery, environmental protection, energy transition and sustainable urban development depends heavily on a well-trained and ethically grounded engineering workforce.
The Institution urged stakeholders including government, academia, industry players and development partners to prioritize funding for research, professional training and technological advancement. It noted that strengthening engineering capacity will not only enhance infrastructure resilience but also boost industrial growth and environmental sustainability.
IET-GH further encouraged young people to consider engineering careers, describing the profession as a vital driver of innovation, national competitiveness and long-term prosperity.
The statement concluded with a renewed pledge by the Institution to promote professional excellence, ethical standards and responsible engineering practices aligned with Ghana’s development goals.
